Celebrating Kannawidan Festivity
Every year, the province of locos Sur celebrates a festival called the Kannawidan Festival. Kannawidan Festival is a variant of the llocano word "tawid" meaning heritage or inheritance. It marks the historic establishments of the province during Spanish times. It is also one of the most awaited annual celebrations in the province and consequently improves llocano culture.
Kannawidan festival is very significant to every Ilocano people as they are celebrating the foundation of Ilocos Sur as a province by virtue of the Royal Decree signed on February 2, 1818. It aims to create awareness on the preservation of the province rich cultural heritage and it showcase the different agriculture and industry products of the province. It shows different indigenous performances, religious rituals, as well cooking demonstrations featuring the best of llocano dishes.
Kannawidan conducts major activities and events for community participation. There are different events that are held during the Kannawidan Festival. It has mega events like carnivals, concerts, trade shows, conferences. sports competition, Street Dancing Competition, and pageants
We can really say that it was really a fun filled week celebration of the Kannawidan Festival in Ilocos Sur. One Ilocos Sur.
